COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team (6-5, 2-1 Big Ten) shut out Penn State (5-6, 1-3 Big Ten), 2-0, in a Big Ten matchup on Sunday.

Game Recap

The first half of the game was a battle between two staunch defenses. The Buckeyes allowed the Nittany Lions just one shot through the first 30 minutes of play. Ohio State got five shots off in the second quarter, but none found their mark as the teams went into halftime scoreless.
Just under two minutes into the third quarter, Loryn Jordon put the Buckeyes on the board. She scored, unassisted, to give Ohio State a 1-0 lead over Penn State.
The Buckeye defense did not allow the Nittany Lions a shot in the third quarter and Ohio State remained in the lead, 1-0, going into the final quarter.
Makenna Webster extended the Buckeye lead, 2-0, after scoring following a penalty corner just over two and half minutes into the fourth quarter. Katie Fichtner assisted on the score.
Ohio State allowed the Nittany Lions just two shots in the remainder of the game as the Buckeyes came away with the 2-0 win to improve to 2-1 in conference play.

Buckeyes by the Numbers

This is the fourth shutout victory of the season for the Buckeyes and goalkeeper Maddie Stevens (6-5). Ohio State opened the season with a 7-0 shutout over Ball State, shut out Northeastern 2-0 on Sept. 14 and earned a shutout over Delaware, 4-0, on Sept. 28.
Webster's goal is her team-best 16^th of the season. She also has a team-high 36 points. Webster is just one goal shy of tying her single-season career-high of 17 goals that she set in 2023.
Jordon has scored three goals this season, which is her career high.
Fichtner's two assists this season tie her career high.
Stevens made one save in net.
The Buckeyes outshot the Nittany Lions, 10-4, and led in penalty corners, 4-2.
