
Nishino Selected B1G Athlete of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Nao Nishino, a sophomore on the Ohio State women's tennis team, has been named the Big Ten co-Player of the Week, the Big Ten Conference announced Wednesday. Nishino won six matches, all in straight sets, to clinch the ITA Midwest Regional singles title, as well as earn a berth into the NCAA singles championship.
The No. 4 seed, Nishino won in straight sets against DePaul, Illinois and Michigan State to open the tournament. In the quarterfinals, the Buckeye topped a No. 9-16 seed from Notre Dame, 6-0, 7-6 (4) and Nishino then was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over No. 2 seed Emily Sartz-Lunde of Michigan in the semifinals. In the final, Nishino posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Notre Dame's Bianca Molnar.
Nishino is the second straight Buckeye to claim the regional title and it is the second in program history. She also clinched her first NCAA singles berth.
