Ohio State opens the year with two victories
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 16/16 Ohio State men's hockey is 2-0 on the year after a 3-1 victory against Northern Michigan Saturday to wrap up a sweep. The Buckeyes led 2-0 after the first period and 2-1 through 40 minutes. A late empty net goal sealed the win.

Ohio State will hit the road for a series at No. 13 UConn next weekend. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in Storrs, Conn., and at 4 p.m. Saturday in Hartford. ESPN+ will broadcast the series.

The only goal of the second came from the Wildcats at 8:05 for a 2-1 game. - Ohio State outshot Northern Michigan, 17-8, in the first period and led 2-0 through 20 minutes.
- At 15:48 Nathan Lewis knocked in a puck near the net to open the scoring, assisted by Thomas Weis and Riley Thompson
- Just 2:11 later Adam Eisele took a pass from Max Montes and skated through the Wildcats before putting a shot bar down and in for a 2-0 advantage.Â
- The Wildcats got on the board at 8:05 of the second and then appeared to tie the game less than three minutes later. Ohio State challenged for goalie interference and the call was overturned after video review.
- The teams combined for 22 shots in the second, with Ohio State ahead, 12-10.
- In the third, Ohio State put 19 shots on net, limiting the Wildcats to six. The Buckeyes were 2-for-2 on the penalty kill in the stanza, allowing just one shot on goal.
- With the Wildcat net empty, Felix Caron tallied from the hash mark deep in the Buckeye zone to help seal the win at 19:06.
- Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly played all 60 minutes and had 23 saves. NMU's Oliver Auyeung-Ashton had 45 stops in 58:54.
- The Buckeyes blocked 13 Northern Michigan shot attempts, led by Thompson with three, and the Wildcats blocked 21 shots.
- The Buckeyes were 0-for-4 on the power play, with three of the four chances in the first, and 15 shots on net with the man advantage.

- Adam Eisele notched his first goal as a Buckeye in the Saturday win.
