COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3 Ohio State continued its perfect start to the season, beating Princeton 4-0 to win the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The Buckeyes are now 4-0 on the season and advance to next month’s ITA Indoor Team National Championship in Dallas, Texas. This will be the Buckeyes’ 16th appearance in the ITA Indoor Team National Championship, and they will be the defending champs as they won the title for the third time last year.
Ohio State rolled to the doubles victory, but Princeton pushed back in singles. The Tigers took the opening set on courts one and two, but the Buckeyes were stout at the bottom and ultimately secured the victory.
Doubles
- Will Jansen and Aidan Kim got an early break and rode that advantage the rest of the way to a 6-4 victory.
- Bryce Nakashima and Preston Stearns raced out to a 3-0 lead on court three and would go on to provide the clinching point with a 6-3 victory.
Singles
- If you blinked, you missed Jack Anthrop’s first set with Landon Ardila on court three. Anthrop shook off a tough doubles performance and blitzed Ardila 6-0 in the first set. He continued to roll in the second, winning 6-1 and putting the second point on the board.
- The third and fourth points came within minutes of each other. Bryce Nakashima took down Evan Wen 6-3, 6-3 on court five.
- Right next door on court six, Chris Li recovered from going down a break in the second set to comeback and post a 6-1, 6-4 victory. That was the clinching point that sent the Buckeyes to Dallas.
- Alexander Bernard was leading his match on court four 6-3, 4-3 when the match was halted.
