No. 15 Buckeyes Down No. 10 Wolfpack 4-1 in ITA Kickoff Opener

Ohio State will face Tennessee or Texas Tech Saturday for a spot in ITA Indoors
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 15-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team used the doubles point and three straight-set singles wins to defeat No. 10 NC State, 4-1, Friday afternoon in Knoxville, Tenn. The match opened ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, with the Buckeyes advancing to Saturday's site championship match. Ohio State will take on No. 18 Tennessee or Texas Tech not before 3:30 p.m. Saturday for a spot at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.

Ohio State captured the doubles point with wins from Nao Nishino/Audrey Spencer and Luciana Perry/Teah Chavez. After the Wolfpack tied the team score, Shelly Bereznyak put the Buckeyes back ahead and Perry and Spencer followed with straight-set wins to clinch the victory.

The Buckeyes are 3-0 on the year, with NC State 2-1.

- Doubles came down to court two, where Buckeyes Luciana Perry and Teah Chavez prevailed 6-4 to clinch the point. The Buckeyes led 4-2 when the second match was finished and the NC State duo of Mia Slama and Anna Zyryanova then won the next two games to even their match at 4-all. The Buckeye tandem held for a 5-4 lead and then broke for the victory.
- The Buckeye duo of Nao Nishino and Audrey Spencer dropped just one game on court three to put Ohio State on the board in doubles, with the Wolfpack answering with a 6-1 win of their own on court one.
- Ohio State claimed four of the six singles first sets.
- NC State tied the team match with a victory on court four, but Shelly Bereznyak answered quickly with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court three to put the Buckeyes back ahead.
- Perry dropped just one game in the first set against Michaela Laki. In the second, the players were even at 3-all before Perry took control and clinched the second set 6-3 for a 3-1 Ohio State lead.
- Two Buckeyes were a game away from clinching the team match following Perry's win, with Spencer sealing the victory.
- On court six, Spencer won the final four games to claim the first set, 6-2. In the second set, she again won the last four games to win the set 6-4.
- Nishino was ahead 6-1, 5-4 on court five when play was suspended. Chavez had evened her court two match at a set apiece when the match was clinched.
