COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team came away with a 2-1 win over No. 4 Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn. With the win, the Buckeyes (17-5-3, 12-5-2 WCHA) sweep the road series against the Bulldogs (15-7-2, 10-6-2 WCHA) and earn a split in the regular season series.
Short Story
Ohio State was quick to take the lead on Saturday as Joy Dunne scored just 2:31 into the game for the early 1-0 Buckeye advantage. She regained possession for the Buckeyes at the Bulldog's blue line and skated into the zone alone. Her shot sailed over the blocker of Minnesota Duluth goaltender Eve Gascon for her 15th goal of the season.
Ohio State had two penalties in the first period and was able to kill off the first – a five-minute major – but Minnesota Duluth capitalized on the second, scoring with 1:03 remaining in the opening frame to knot the game at one goal apiece at the first intermission.
Makenna Webster tallied the game-winning goal in the second period, scoring at 16:44 to tilt the game in favor of the Buckeyes. She collected the puck at the top of her own zone and rushed into Bulldogs territory alongside Kiara Zanon. The duo had the numbers advantage, catching Minnesota Duluth on a partial line change and Webster kept the puck, beating the glove of Gascon.
Ohio State goaltender Amanda Thiele finished the night with 13 saves for the win.
