COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s tennis will kickoff its 112th season this Saturday when it hosts Xavier and Toledo. The match with Xavier will start at 10 a.m. followed by the match with Toledo at 3:30 p.m.
Admission and parking are free for all men’s tennis matches.
- Against Xavier, Ohio State is 21-0 all-time and has surrendered just three points to the Musketeers in those 21 matches. Last year, the Buckeyes beat Xavier 7-0 on the first day of the season.
- Against Toledo, Ohio State is 40-3 all-time. The Buckeyes lost three of the first four meetings in the 1950s and 60s but have since won 39 consecutive matches against the Rockets. Ohio State won 6-1 in Tucker’s first season in 2000 but has since swept Toledo 23 times.
- Ohio State is opening its 112th season of tennis and will be led, once again, by director of tennis Ty Tucker. Tucker is in his 26th season at the helm, surpassing 700 career wins last season.
- Ohio State has won 18 consecutive Big Ten titles and is coming off a semifinal appearance at the NCAA Tournament last May.
- The Buckeyes open the season ranked No.3 in the ITA preseason rankings.
- Aidan Kim had a great fall, reaching the semifinals at the season-opening All-American Championship and then reaching the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship to earn his first All-America honors.
- Four Buckeyes are ranked in the preseason singles rankings. Aidan Kim leads the way at No. 11, followed byAlexander Bernard at No. 46, Will Jansen at No. 64 and Chris Li at No. 107.
- In doubles, Jansen and Bryce Nakashima won a pair of matches at the NCAA Doubles Championship in the fall to earn their first All-America honors. The duo is ranked No. 25 in the preseason doubles rankings. Kim and Bernard are ranked No. 57 while Brandon Carpico and Preston Stearns are No. 73 and Carpico and Alex Fuchs are No. 119.
- Junior Jack Anthrop is coming off an All-American season that saw him lose just twice in dual team matches. This year, he was named a Big Ten Player to Watch.
- Next weekend, the Buckeyes will host the ITA Kickoff Weekend as the welcome in Vanderbilt, Oregon and Boise State.
