Buckeyes Sweep Xavier and Toledo on Opening Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State opened its 112th season of tennis with a pair of 4-0 sweeps over in-state foes Xavier and Toledo.
This was the 40th consecutive win against Toledo and the Buckeyes are now 22-0 all-time against Xavier, surrendering just three points in those 22 matches.
Brandon Carpico led the way with three combined wins on the day while Bryce Nakashima, Nikita Filin and Chris Li all collected a pair of victories.
The Buckeyes will host the ITA Kickoff Weekend next weekend for the 16th time and they have a record of 29-1 kickoff weekend matches.
Doubles
- The Buckeyes started the day by winning the doubles point against Xavier in just 20 minutes.
- The doubles point took 10 minutes longer in the afternoon as the Buckeyes topped Toledo with a 6-1 win on court three and a 6-2 win on court two.
- Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin both won a pair of doubles matches on the day.
Singles
- Chris Li was dominant in his morning match with Xavier’s Christian Gonzalez, topping him 6-0, 6-2.
- Bryce Nakashima and Will Jansen added the other two singles wins against the Musketeers, surrendering just seven combined games in the two matches.
- In the afternoon vs. Toledo, Chris Li continued to roll with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Charlie Snow on court four.
- All-American Jack Anthrop won his lone match of the day, besting Hanamichi Carvajal on court one 6-1, 6-1.
- The clinching point came from Brandon Carpico as he collected his first career dual singles victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lucas Britez on court five.
- Alex Fuchs was beside him on court six looking for his first collegiate dual singles win and he was close, as he led 6-1, 5-0
