COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1/5 Ohio State women's hockey team earned a 3-0 win over Bemidji State Saturday at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. to complete its first sweep of the season. The Buckeyes (2-2-0, 2-2-0 WCHA) successfully completed its first road test of the season by earning its first shutout of the year.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1/5 Ohio State women's hockey team earned a 3-0 win over Bemidji State Saturday at the Sanford Center in Bemidji, Minn. to complete its first sweep of the season. The Buckeyes (2-2-0, 2-2-0 WCHA) successfully completed its first road test of the season by earning its first shutout of the year.
How it Happened
- Saturday's game didn't get off to as quick of a start as game one, with both teams scoreless after the first period. Ohio State recorded 12 shots on goal and Buckeye netminder Hailey MacLeod made six saves in the opening frame.
- Sophomore Joy Dunne broke the tie at 14:46 in the second period. The Buckeyes stopped the Beavers at their own blue line and Sloane Matthews tipped the puck into the Bemidji State zone with Dunne skating in with her. The junior from Plymouth, Minn. native connected with Dunne, who was at the top of the goalie crease, to knock the puck past goaltender Kaitlin Groess.
- Ohio State was called for two penalties in the final minutes of the middle frame – the first at 17:59 and the second at 18:30. The team killed off the 3-on-5 and Buckeye netminder Hailey MacLeod made four saves against the Beavers' power play to keep the score 1-0 in favor of Ohio State at the second intermission.
- Freshman Jordyn Petrie tallied the Buckeyes' second goal of the day 1:55 into the third period. She picked up the puck in the neutral zone and skated it in herself, finishing over the glove of Groess.
- Freshman Josie St. Martin capitalized on rebounded shot by Emily Zumwinkle at 16:00 in the third period to give the Buckeyes the 3-0 lead.
- MacLeod finished the game with 15 saves to earn her first win as a Buckeye.
- MacLeod recorded the team's first shutout of the season Saturday against Bemidji State. The junior goaltender has now earned eight shutouts for her career.
- Petrie's third period goal was her team-leading third goal of the weekend. The freshman has tallied a team-high four goals in four games this season.
- Dunne (1G, 1A), Sloane Matthews (1A) and Emily Zumwinkle (1A) recorded their first points of the season. Zumwinkle's assist is her first point in the scarlet and gray.
- Dunne finished the game with a team-high two points and Zumwinkle led the team with a +3 on ice.
- Ohio State was held without a goal in the first period for the first time this season.
