COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 1/2 Ohio State women's hockey team dropped its season–opener, 2-1, to No. 7 Minnesota Duluth Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink.

How it Happened

It took less than two minutes for Ohio State to score its first goal of the season, with freshman Jordan Petrie lighting the lamp 1:39 into the game.
The next 37 minutes were scoreless, but the Buckeyes were not short of chances. The team outshot Minnesota Duluth 22-9 in the first two periods. Ohio State held its opponent without a shot on goal for the first 13 minutes.
The Bulldogs tied the game with 1:11 to play in the second period off a goal from Olivia Wallin.
The eventual game-winner was tallied by Minnesota Duluth's Ida Karlsson with 23 seconds to play in the third period.
The Buckeyes pulled goaltender Amanda Thiele with 21 seconds to play in the third and went on the power play with just over two seconds to play but were not able to net the equalizer.

Game Notes

Jordyn Petrie's goal marked the first of her career. She is the first Buckeye freshman to score in the team's season opener since Tatum Skaggs began her Buckeye career with a goal in the team's 4-1 win at RPI Sept. 29, 2017.
The goal is the team's quickest goal to start the season since Tessa Bonhomme lit the lamp at 1:14 into Ohio State's 2006-07 season-opener against Northeastern.
