Buckeyes Race in Roy Griak Invitational
9/20/2024 2:12:00 PM | Women's Cross Country
Three men finish in Top 25, Akemi Von Scherr leads the women in Top 20
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's and women's cross country teams ran in the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by Minnesota in Falcon Heights, Minn., Friday. The men, with three Top 25 finishers, placed fifth as a team. Akemi Von Scherr led the women with a 17th-place finish, with the women's team seventh.
Quoting head coach Sara Mason Vergote
"The men had a great day and executed the race perfectly. I was especially impressed with Weston Day who is a true freshman.
"On the women's side, it's good to start putting people back in the mix. We have had some adversity so I don't anticipate that people will see our full potential until the championship portion of the season when it matters. I thought Akemi had one of the best races of her career and she's going to keep coming.
"We will go back to work and be even better in two weeks."
The Buckeye Men
The men placed fifth among 17 teams in the 8K race. Zubin Jha (13th), Weston Day (18th) and Kevin Agnew (21st) led the Buckeye men with Top 25 finishes. Kaleb Martin (35th) and Jack Agnew (38th) closed out the Buckeye counters. Day and Jack Agnew were both running their first collegiate 8K.
Connor Long (in his first collegiate 8K race), Colby Adams and Sean Carney finished in the Top 75, with Keegan Freyhof, Liam Shaughnessy, Zach Beneteau and John Cuozzo closing out the Buckeye lineup.
