Buckeyes sit at eighth in the latest NFHCA poll
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The eighth-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes look to stay perfect this weekend as they travel to Virginia to face the Richmond Spiders (3-1) Friday at 5 p.m. and No. 18 Old Dominion (4-0) on Sunday at noon. Briefly on the Buckeyes…
- Ohio State's 20 goals this season mark the most through four games in program history. The Buckeyes have won each of their first four matches by three goals or more and have only allowed two on the year.
- The Buckeyes currently sit at No. 8 in the NFHCA poll, joining five other Big Ten teams: No. 1 Northwestern, No. 5 Maryland, No. 6 Iowa, No. 10 Michigan and No. 11 Rutgers.
- Graduate student Makenna Webster leads the Big Ten in points (14) and assists (four).
- Sophomore Brenna Bough has scored a goal in all four matches this season, besting her previous streak of two consecutive goal-scoring games in 2023. The New York native totals nine points (4G, 1A) so far in 2024.
- Made up of goalkeeper Abby Danson and backs Katie Fichtner, Sarah Richards and Erin Little, the scarlet and gray defense has only allowed two goals on 31 shots faced so far this season.
Scouting Richmond
- This is the sixth matchup between the Buckeyes and the Spiders
- Ohio State leads the series 4-0-1, with the last matchup being a double-overtime Buckeye win in 2011. Ohio State has outscored Richmond 13-5 in the series.
- Richmond started 2024 with a shutout loss against Old Dominion, but have rattled off three-straight wins since. The spiders total 12 goals on the season
- Two spiders lead the Atlantic Ten Conference in two major stat categories: sophomore forward Clara Larripa leads the conference in goals with six and junior midfielder Jess McMeeking leads in assists with three on the season
- The Spiders finished the 2023 season 7-11 and started 2024 picked to place fourth in the A10 preseason poll
Scouting ODU
- Sunday's match marks the seventh meeting between Ohio State and Old Dominion, with the Monarchs leading the all-time series 5-1. Three of those meetings have been decided by one goal or less.
- Old Dominion comes into Sunday ranked No. 18 in the NFHCA poll with a 4-0 record and 19 goals scored.
- The Monarchs finished last season 14-6 and took program's first Big East tournament title. They were knocked out of the NCAA tournament in the first round by the Maryland Terrapins, 3-0.
- The 2024 squad was picked to finish second in the Big East behind Liberty University
- Goalkeeper Suus Broers won Big East DPOTW on September 3 after recording three saves in the Monarch's season-opening shutout against Richmond. The Netherlands native was named 2023 Big East Co-Freshman of the Year.
