COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State (1-0-1) returns to Columbus for a pair of matches at the annual Wolstein Classic this week after a road victory at Akron Sunday.

The Buckeyes take on SIUE at approximately 8 p.m. Thursday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Dayton and UNLV kick things off at the 2024 Wolstein Classic at 6 p.m. The Ohio State women's team (3-0-0) starts the day at 4 p.m. against South Carolina in the first of three matches at JOMS.

The Wolstein Classic continues with a 3 p.m. match Sunday, Sept. 1 between Dayton and SIUE followed be the event final between Ohio State and UNLV at 7 p.m.

The Buckeyes, unranked in the preseason, earned a No. 20 ranking in the first United Soccer Coaches Poll of the 2024 season.
This will be Year 18 for the Wolstein Classic in Columbus. The event was first played in 2006 and since then, Ohio State is 17-8-8.
After a team vote, seniors Deylen Vellios and David Wrona were named captains for the 2024 season.
The Big Ten selected three Buckeyes as players to watch in 2024. Michael Adedokun, Siggy Magnusson and Luciano Pechota made the league's preseason list. Ohio State was picked sixth by the conference coaches in the expanded Big Ten Conference.
Freshmen David Ajagbe, Nick McHenry, Nick Skubis and Patrick McLaughlin all made their first appearances as Buckeyes this season.
Ajagbe has made his presence felt early in his Ohio State career with a pair of goals over the first two matches. He got the equalizer in the 1-all draw in the home opener vs. Cleveland State and then put Ohio State out front 1-0 in the 3' at Akron. The Buckeyes added a goal by Luciano Pechota to down the Zips 2-0.
In the last three road matches over the last two seasons, Ohio State has allowed the home team just one goal. The Buckeyes won 1-0 at Michigan State in the 2023 Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals (11/3/23) before a 1-all draw at Penn State in the league semifinals (11/8/23) PSU advanced on PKs, 4-3. Last Sunday at Akron, Ohio State blanked the Zips 2-0 in the first road match of the 2024 season
Three regular-season Big Ten Conference matches will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network this season. Ohio State and Penn State kick at 6 p.m. on BTN Sept. 17 in the Big Ten opener for both squads in State College. In the first meeting as league opponents, Ohio State's home match against Washington Oct. 7 (8 p.m.) and then the senior-day matchup in Columbus against Michigan State Oct. 29 (6 p.m.) will both be delivered to a national audience on BTN.
Ohio State and SIUE have met just twice previously. The Buckeyes are 0-1-1 in those meetings. The Cougars won the last battle, 3-2, in Columbus Sept. 28, 2-16.
In the series vs. UNLV, Ohio State is 1-1-0 all-time. In the last meeting, the Runnin' Rebels earned a 3-2 win in Las Vegas Sept. 1, 2000.
The Big Ten Conference is made up of 11 teams sponsoring men's soccer with the addition of UCLA and Washington to the league starting this season. Oregon and USC also were added to the conference but neither sponsors men's soccer. The Buckeyes meet new league members UCLA on the road Oct. 11 after playing host to the Huskies Oct. 7.
Several Buckeyes who missed the 2023 season with injury will be available in 2024. Defenders Nathan Demian and Thomas Gilej in addition to midfielder David Wrona return following injuries a season ago. Also back is defender Deylen Vellios, who is using a fifth-year of eligibility.
