COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five Ohio State Buckeyes will represent the scarlet and gray later next month at the Senior Nexus Championship, which is slated to take place July 14-16 at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. They are: Emily Barker, Katie Fichtner, Anne Marie Krebs, Claudia Thomas and Makenna Webster.
The Senior NXC features 144 elite collegiate and post-collegiate athletes. During the spring and early summer, athletes trialed and trained at one of the seven USA Field Hockey High Performance Centers throughout the country for an opportunity to be selected to the Senior NXC. All athletes that were previously named to the U.S. U18, U21, and Development Women's National Teams were also included within the selection.
A step along the Olympic Development Pathway program, the Senior NXC serves as a selection opportunity for the 2024-25 U.S. U-21 Women's National Team Selection Camps, Junior USWNT Selection Camps, U.S. Women's National Development Squad and U.S. Women's National Team.
The event will start with a team training session on Sunday, July 14 with games starting on Monday, July 15.
Four the Ohio State's five representatives were either starters or key backups last season. Webster was the team's leading scorer and a third team All-American while Fichtner, Krebs and Thomas each started 20 games. Barker, a freshman last fall, was the Player of the Year in Ohio as a senior at Upper Arlington in 2022.
