COLUMBUS, Ohio – The goal at the start of the week was to finish in the top 5 and earn a spot in the NCAA Championship. Through two rounds of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, Ohio State is where it needs to be.
The Buckeyes carded a second round 294 and are in fifth place heading into Wednesday’s final round. There are five teams within six shots of each other holding down the third through seventh spots. Wednesday’s round will be full of nerves and jockeying for position.
For the second consecutive day, Neal Shipley carded the low round for the Buckeyes as he posted a 1-under 71 and is in a tie for second place at 3-under par. He made four more birdies on Tuesday and is tied for the lead with 10 birdies through two rounds.
Adam Wallin followed his 1-under 71 on Monday with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday and is tied for 10th at even par. Maxwell Moldovan had a tough opening round on Monday and started Tuesday with back-to-back bogeys. But he steadied himself and would make a couple of birdies en route to finishing with a 74.
Jackson Chandler was the fourth score for the Buckeyes in the second round as he finished with a 76. Tyler Sabo rounded out the scores with an 83.
Texas Tech is in third place at 3-over while Duke is 6-over, Ohio State 7-over, LSU 8-over and Houston 9-over. A lot left to be sorted out on Wednesday.
For the third consecutive round, the Buckeyes will start at 9:30 a.m. ET off the 10th tee. They are paired with Duke and host LSU. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the entire round on Wednesday.
