COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team has earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament and will head to the Baton Rouge Regional later this month. The Baton Rouge Regional will be played on May 13-15 at the University Club, hosted by LSU.
The top five teams and top individual not on a qualifying team at each of the six regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., on May 24-29.
Ohio State is the No. 6-seed in the 14-team regional. The Buckeyes have qualified for a regional for the fifth consecutive season which ties the program record. They also went to a regional five consecutive seasons from 1989-93. This is the sixth time the team has qualified for a regional under head coach Jay Moseley, who is in his ninth season. Last year, the Buckeyes finished fifth at the Auburn Regional behind medalist Maxwell Moldovan to qualify for its 48th NCAA Championship.
The Buckeyes have six Top 5 finishes this season including a win at the Southwestern Invitational in January. They are coming off a runner-up finish at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate two weeks ago and a fifth-place finish at the Big Ten Championship last weekend. Neal Shipley was a unanimous All-Big Ten selection while Maxwell Moldovan became just the fifth Buckeye in program history to earn All-Big Ten honors four times.
Ohio State holds a 9-9 head-to-head record against teams at the Baton Rouge Regional. They have played in the same field as 10 of the 13 teams, including four events with No. 2 seed Virginia.
Play gets underway at 8:30 a.m. ET each morning on May 13-15.
