Buckeyes get a solo home run in the fourth inning by freshman Jasmyn Burns

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team dropped a 9-1 decision to Minnesota on Friday evening in the opening game of this weekend's series at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium in Minneapolis. The Buckeyes are now 19-13 on the season while the Gophers improve to 19-15.

The Short Story
Minnesota scored in all four innings in which it batted, getting a three-run home run in the top of the first and then capitalizing on some Buckeye miscues in the second and third innings to build a 8-0 lead. Ohio State's lone hit of the game, however, was a big one as freshman Jasmyn Burns hit her seventh home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning.

Three different pitchers saw action in the circle, beginning with Emily Ruck, who then gave way to Allison Smith before the end of the first inning. Kennedy Kay tossed the final 1.1 innings and allowed just one hit.

Buckeye This and That

This weekend marks Ohio State's first trip to Minneapolis in 13 years. The last time they played at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium was April 2, 2011 – a doubleheader in which the Buckeyes won both games.
Burns' home run in the fourth inning was hit to straightaway center field. She is tied with Kami Kortokrax for the team lead with 27 RBI.
With third-inning walk, junior Kaitlyn Farley reached base for the 10th consecutive game. Five different players have double digit reached base streaks this season.
