Buckeyes pick up three race wins at Jesse Owens Classic

Chanler Robinson (400 hurdles), Leah Bertrand (200) and Braxton Brann (200) all victorious
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field team hosted the first day of the annual Jesse Owens Classic on Friday in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Classic was expecting to host as many as 50 programs.
Buckeyes claimed three victories: Chanler Robinson won the 400-meter hurdles; Leah Bertrand won the 200-meters and Braxton Brann won the men's 200-meters.
TRACK RESULTS
- 400m hurdles:Â Sr. Chanler Robinson won the race with a time of 58.70; So. Avery Clark was fourth with a season-best time of 1:00.42
- 1500m:Â Sr. Gia Napoleon was the top Buckeye, running a time of 4:30.01 to place 8th in the 51-runner field; Sr. Alex Dediu ran a time of 3:51.91 and placed third in the 43-runner field.
- 200m: Jr. Leah Bertrand (23.57), So. Fatouma Conde (23.68) and Sr. Nya Bussey (23.97) took three of the top four positions with Bertrand getting the win, Conde second and Bussey fourth; Similar results on the men's side: three freshmen – Braxton Brann (21.08), Mason Lewis (21.22) and Nick Biega (21.59) finished first, second and third, respectively.
- 5000m:Â Fr. Ana Karmol ran a 17.44.16 time.
FIELD RESULTS
- Hammer throw:Â Jr. Lacey Stringer led Ohio State with a fourth-place finish out of 32 competitors with a throw of 57.64m / 189'01"; Sr. Sophie Bidwell was sixth (53.95m / 177'-00") and Sr. Marissa Henley was eighth (52.60m / 172/07"); In the men's hammer, Sr. Hayden Tobias was the top finishing Buckeye (11th) with a season-best throw of 59.61m / 195'07" while Fr. Anthony Wilks also hit a season-best with a throw of 58.86m / 193'01"Â
- Long jump: Fr. Kayla Watson jumped 5.93m / 19-05½ to place third; Fr. Brian Kellon jumped a season-best 7.07m / 23-02½ and finished fifth.
