
No. 1 Buckeyes Dominate Michigan State Again, Win 6-1

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a battle of Big Ten unbeatens, No. 1 Ohio State held serve at home, beating No. 18 Michigan State 6-1 to remain in the top spot in the Big Ten standings.
The Buckeyes improve to 24-1 on the season and 6-0 in Big Ten play while Michigan State falls to 20-4 and 6-1 in conference matches. The win was also the 32nd consecutive win for Ohio State against Michigan State.
Robert Cash, Cannon Kingsley and JJ Tracy all picked up a pair of victories on the afternoon.
In doubles, Cash and Bryce Nakashima got a break at 4-3 and then went on to win 6-3. Tracy and Kingsley jumped out to an early lead and held the edge for a 6-3 win as well and the Buckeyes took the doubles point.
With the 1-0 lead, the Buckeyes kept the pedal down and won the first four singles matches to take a 5-0 lead. MSU didn’t get on the board until a win at No. 2 singles and then Kingsley finished it off with a three-set win.
Tracy made the score 2-0 with an impressive 6-3, 7-5 win over No. 43 Ronnie Hohmann on court three. That was followed by a 7-5, 6-4 win from Jack Anthrop over Sebastien Collard and the Buckeyes led 3-0.
The clinching point came from Bernard on court six as he rebounded from dropping the first set to roll past David Saye 6-1, 6-3 in the second and third sets. Robert Cash split the first two sets with Max Sheldon on court five before winning the third set 6-1.
After Boulais dropped a three-set match on court two, Kingsley won his opening set and then lost the second set in a tiebreaker. He then broke at 4-3 and then held for a 6-3 win in the third to cap the 6-1 team victory.
There are now just two undefeated teams left in Big Ten play and they will meet tomorrow in Columbus. Ohio State and rival Michigan will play at noon at the Auer Tennis Complex. The Wolverines beat Penn State on Friday night and are 7-0 in Big Ten matches.
