COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State kicks off a pair of Florida events this month as it will head to the northern part of the state for the Hayt Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach this weekend. The 54-hole event will run Saturday through Monday.
- Ohio State’s lineup will be Maxwell Moldovan, Neal Shipley, Adam Wallin, Jackson Chandler and Topher Reed. Jacob Tarkany will play as an individual.
- The Buckeyes opened the spring by winning the Southwestern Invitational in late January but has since finished 9th and 7th in their last two events.
- Ohio State is currently ranked No. 26 in the latest Scoreboard rankings powered by Clippd.
- Shipley is preparing for a fun six weeks. In addition to the event this weekend, he will play in the Valspar Collegiate at the end of the month and then head to Augusta to play in his first Masters in early April. He leads the team in scoring with a career-best 69.61 scoring average and has posted a team-high 10 rounds in the 60s.
- Moldovan is right behind Shipley in scoring, averaging 69.89 through 18 rounds. He has carded 13 rounds at par or better and is the only one on the team to have finished under-par in all six events this season.
- Wallin tops the team with 15 rounds at par or better and is averaging a career-best 70.89 strokes per round through 18 rounds. Currently, that is a full stroke lower than his previous career-low.
- Chandler is coming off his best tournament of the season, leading the team at the Watersound Invitational with a seventh-place finish at 6-under par. He carded rounds of 72.68-70 to record his first under-par event since the Colleton River Collegiate early last spring.
- Reed will be playing in his third event of the season, and this will be just the second event of his career as part of the scoring five. He has averaged 76.00 in five individual rounds this spring. Last year as a freshman, he was a part of the scoring five at the Hamptons Intercollegiate and all three of his rounds counted towards the team score.
- Tarkany will be appearing in his sixth event of the year. He holds a 73.29 scoring average, which is the lowest of his career. He has a pair of rounds in the 60s this season and has posted six rounds at par or better.
- This will be the fourth playing of the Hayt Invitational and it will be the Buckeyes’ first appearance in the event. Last year, Vanderbilt won the event at 28-under par. Host North Florida finished runner-up in 2021 and 2023 and won the event in 2022.
- Temperatures are expected in the 80s for the opening round with a line of storms expected to come through on Saturday evening. That will drop the temperatures into the 70s on Sunday and the 60s on Monday.
