COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's lacrosse team makes its first Big Ten road trip of the season this weekend to play No. 19 Rutgers at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. The Buckeyes (5-5, 0-1 B1G) and Scarlet Knights (6-3, 0-1 B1G) dual for their first conference win of the season.

Buckeyes In a Nutshell
As a team...
- In their last time out, the Buckeyes fell to then-No. 7 Penn State, 12-9, last Sunday.
- The matchup was the Buckeyes' fifth in as many weeks against a ranked opponent. The current rankings of those teams: No. 1 Notre Dame, No. 2 Virginia, No. 4 Penn State, No. 7 Cornell and No. 9 Denver.
- The remaining four games of the regular season are all against ranked teams – No. 19 Rutgers, No. 12 Maryland (April 6), No. 11 Johns Hopkins (April 14) and No. 15 Michigan (April 20).
- Ohio State leads the conference with 34.60 ground balls per game and ranks in the top 10 nationally in the category. The Buckeyes are second in the B1G, and 11th nationally, in faceoff win percentage (.582).
- The Buckeyes have also earned top-20 marks nationally in caused turnovers per game (9.20), faceoff win percentage (.582) and scoring defense (9.70).
- Ohio State's defense has held four opponents to their lowest scoring performances of the season – including the top-10 scoring offenses of Virginia and Penn State – and five to their second lowest.
- Junior Ed Shean leads the Buckeyes with 22 points on the year. He has tallied a career and team-high 10 assists on the season. The Seal Beach, Calif. native has now recorded 20+ points in his last two seasons.
- Junior Alex Marinier has scored a team-best 17 goals on the year. Entering the season, he did not have a point in nine games played. Now, he has 18 points in 10 games this season for the Buckeyes. Marinier has recorded multiple goals in five of the last six games and has tallied a point in the last nine gals for Ohio State.
- Jacob Snyder, the fifth-year defenseman, has caused nine turnovers this season, one short of his career-high of 10 recorded in 2022. His 36 caused turnovers for his career are tied for ninth in the Ohio State record book for career caused turnovers since 2003.
- Marcus Hudgins' 16 caused turnovers on the year put him at third in the Big Ten with 1.60 per game. Hudgins' 33 caused turnovers as a Buckeye are three short of putting him in the top 10 in the Ohio State record book.
- Freshman goalie Caleb Fyock has double digit saves in five of the last six games. In his first Big Ten game, he made 12 saves. His career-high 17 saves were made against Virginia (Feb. 25). The Bowie, Md. native is ninth nationally with a 9.56 goals against average.
- Tommy Burke leads the Buckeyes' faceoff unit this season, going 91-of-161 (.565) from the faceoff X. He ranks third in the conference in win percentage.
- Gannon Matthews and Ben Mayer are tied for second on the squad with 16 goals. Matthews has been held scoreless just once this season and started his Buckeye career with three multi-goal games. Mayer has recorded five multi-goal games, including hat trick performances against Air Force (Feb. 17) and Detroit Mercy (March 12).
- Burke leads the Buckeyes with 47 ground balls in 2024. Cullen Brown's 33 ground balls are the most on the team among non-faceoff players.
- Ohio State is 4-13 in the all-time series against Rutgers.
- The Buckeyes won the last meeting between the teams in 2023, defeating the Scarlet Knights, 11-7, at Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium.
- The win in Columbus was Ohio State's first victory over Rutgers since the 2018 season.
