No. 10 Ohio State Sweeps Cardinals 3-0 in Muncie

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 10 Ohio State (16-7, 9-4) evened the season series with a 3-0 win at No. 12 Ball State (16-8, 9-2) Thursday at Worthen Arena in Muncie, Indiana. Â Â

The Buckeyes dropped a 3-1 decision to Ball State last week in Columbus. Â

Ohio State won by scores of 25-18, 25-16, 25-18.
Â
Shane Wetzel led the way with 13 kills while Kyle Teune added 11 on 14 swings for a .714 hitting percentage on the night.

Noah Platfoot (21) and Michael Wright (11) combined for 32 of Ohio State's 37 assists. Thomas Poole led with seven digs while Ben Putnam added five.

Ohio State was again without All-American Jacob Pasteur, who has been out with a lower body injury.

Set 1
The opener was tightly contested early before Ball State went up 6-4 after a 3-0 run. The Buckeyes came right back with consecutive points to even the set at 6-all. Â Ohio State used a 5-1 run to take a 13-10 advantage before a timeout by the Cardinals. Kyle Teune was the driving force early with four kills on four swings for the Buckeyes. Kills by Teune, Shane Wetzel and Justin Howard put Ohio State up 18-14. A Cole Young, Wetzel combo block followed by a Young kill made it 22-17 Buckeyes. Ohio State then finished on a 3-1 run to win the set, 25-18 after a Wetzel kill. Teune lead the way with six kills to help the Buckeyes hit .464. Â Â Â

Ball State got out to a 4-2 lead before the Buckeyes countered with a 5-1 run to take a 7-5 lead. The Cardinals called a timeout after another run by the Buckeyes put Ohio State up 10-6. A Teune ace and a big block by the Buckeyes led to another Ball State timeout with Ohio State leading 15-8. A couple kills from the middle by Justin Howard kept the lead at seven (19-12). Back-to-back Wetzel kills built the Ohio State lead to 22-14. Young then got the set-winning kill for the 25-16 win. Wetzel led both teams with 10 kills after two sets. Ohio State hit .619 in the win for a .531 percentage for the match. Â

Ball State was the early aggressor in taking a 7-4 lead. Ohio State used a 3-1 run to get to within one at 11-10 Cardinals. A Howard, Wetzel block tied it at 13-all. Ohio State led 15-14 at the media timeout after a 5-1 run. After a 15-all tie, Ohio State went on a 3-0 run to prompt a Ball State timeout down 18-15. The Buckeyes scored the next two after the break leading to the Cardinals final timeout of the set with Ohio State leading 20-15. The Buckeyes won the set 25-18 and the match, 3-0.
