COLUMBUS, Ohio – On a day when just two teams broke par and scoring was at a premium, Ohio State posted a 1-over 289 and remained in second place through two rounds of the Hayt Invitational on Sunday.
The Buckeyes are tied with Alabama at 1-under par, just three shots behind top-ranked North Carolina. They are also eight shots clear of Virginia in fourth place.
Individually, senior Adam Wallin carded a second-consecutive round of 2-under 70 and is tied for the lead at 4-under par. He bogeyed his second hole of the day but then played the final 16 holes in a bogey-free 3-under par. Wallin is tied with Alabama’s Canon Claycomb as they hold a one-shot lead.
Neal Shipley made five bogeys in his first seven holes on Sunday but regrouped and made four birdies coming home to card a 1-over 73. That has him as one of just 11 players under-par through 36 holes as he is 2-under and tied for sixth.
Maxwell Moldovan posted a 2-over 74 on Sunday and is tied for 16th at 1-over par. He made 15 pars in the second round and leads the field with 28 pars through the two rounds. Jackson Chandler birdied two of his final three holes to card an even-par 72. He is tied for 23rd at 4-over for the tournament.
Topher Reed and Jacob Tarkany, who is playing as an individual this weekend, both opened the tournament with rounds of 80-78. Reed matched Chandler with birdies at Nos. 16 and 18 to close his round on Sunday.
The Buckeyes will look for their second win of the season on Monday. They are paired with North Carolina and Alabama in the final round, which starts at 10:10 a.m.
