COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s Neal Shipley was named the Big Ten Men’s Golfer of the Week after he won the Southwestern Invitational last week at the North Ranch Golf Club in Westlake Village, Calif.
The win was the first collegiate victory for the Pittsburgh, Pa., native. He carded rounds of 69-67-65 to finish at 12-under par. The final round 65 (-6) saw Shipley make a total of eight birdies, including six in his final eight holes, to come back and win the tournament by one shot.
This was his second tournament this season in which he finished 12-under par, and it was the time in his career in which he posted all three rounds of an event in the 60s. For the week, he made a total of 19 birdies.
This is Shipley’s first Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor. He and the Buckeyes return to action next week when they will play in the Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Country Club in Rio Grande.
