COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s Cannon Kingsley went a combined 4-0 over the weekend and helped lead the Buckeyes to a pair of Top 15 victories. For his efforts, he was named the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week.
Against No. 3 Virginia on Friday night, Kingsley won his doubles match at the No. 1 spot and then beat Dylan Dietrich 7-6(4), 6-3 at the No. 2 singles spot. On Sunday vs. No. 13 Wake Forest, he claimed a 6-4 win at the No. 2 doubles spot and then topped Wake Forest’s top player, DK Suresh Ekambaram 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Those four victories helped the Buckeyes sweep Virginia 7-0 and post a 6-1 win over Wake Forest.
This is Kingsley’s sixth Big Ten Athlete of the Week honor of his career. He is also the second Buckeye to claim the award this season as Justin Boulais was last week’s honoree.
On the season, Kingsley is 6-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles. The Buckeyes remain in the top spot in this week’s ITA rankings and are a percent 8-0 on the season.
Ohio State will host No. 4 South Carolina this Sunday at noon at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
