COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team lost the finale of a two-game series vs. No. 12 Michigan, 4-1, in front of 8,789 fans Saturday in Value City Arena. Michigan led 2-0 after the first period. After a scoreless second, Buckeye freshman Max Montes made it a one-goal game at 4:28 of the third. Michigan stretched the lead with two goals in 15 seconds less than three minutes later and went on to the 4-1 final. Â

The game ended the regular season series between the Buckeyes (9-14-4, 1-14-2 0-0-2 B1G) and Wolverines (14-9-3, 7-7-2 0-1-1 B1G).

- An open week is up next and the Buckeyes will then welcome No. 4 Wisconsin Feb. 16 (6:30 p.m.) and Feb. 17 (4:30 p.m.). Game one will be streamed through Big Ten Plus, with game two on BTN.
- After a trip to Michigan State Feb. 23-24, Ohio State will close the regular season with two games vs. Penn State in Columbus March 1-2.

- Michigan opened the scoring at 7:22. A Buckeye clearing attempt went off a Wolverine skate to Josh Eernisse, who tallied. Ethan Edwards doubled the lead with a goal at 17:37.
- Each team had 10 shots in the first period and Ohio State had three of the four power play chances.
- There were no goals and no power plays in the second period. The Buckeyes were outshot, 14-12.
- At 4:28 of the third freshman Max Montes netted his third goal of the weekend for Ohio State, scoring from the top of the faceoff circle off a pass from Caden Brown. Nathan McBrayer also assisted on the tally, Montes' fifth of the year.
- At 7:05 Michigan's Rutger McGoarty regained the two-goal edge for the Wolverines and Eernisse added a goal 15 seconds later.
- Michigan outshot the Buckeyes 17-8 in the third period and was 0-for-2 on the power play in the stanza, with eight shots on goal.
- The Wolverines ended the game ahead in shots, 41-30. Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly had 37 saves in all 60 minutes. Scooter Brickey had two of the Buckeyes' eight shot blocks.
- The Buckeyes were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and 0-for-4 on the power play in the game.
