
Buckeyes Close Regular Season with Home Series vs. Nittany Lions

Class of 2024 will be recognized pregame Saturday
The Basics
- The Ohio State men's hockey team wraps up the regular season with a series vs. Penn State this weekend.Â
- The teams will meet at 6 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio.Â
- BTN and the Fox Sports app will televise game one and game two will be streamed through B1G+. Ohio State Radio will carry the action on 1460 AM and the Ohio State Buckeyes app. Live statistics can be linked from OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- Friday there is a Buckeye hockey sweatshirt giveaway for Ohio State students. Saturday the team's Class of 2024 will be recognized pregame and Script Ohio on Ice will be performed during the first intermission.Â
- Tickets can be purchased through OhioStateBuckeyes.com and at the arena on game night. Parking is free around the arena.Â
- Ohio State is 12-16-4 on the year (4-16-2 1-0-2 B1G) and Penn State is 13-16-3 this season (5-14-3 0-1-2 B1G). The Buckeyes are coming off a split at then-No. 4 Michigan State last weekend, while Penn State dropped two games at home vs. then-No. 6 Wisconsin. Â
- Pregame Saturday, the eight members of the Buckeye Hockey Class of 2024 will be recognized.Â
- The group includes Scooter Brickey, Matt Cassidy, Joe Dunlap, Michael Gildon, Patrick Guzzo, Riley Hughes, Mason Klee and Dalton Messina.Â
- The group enters the weekend with 907 collegiate games played, with 104 goals and 165 assists for 269 points.
- Cassidy, Gildon, Hughes, Klee and Messina are all enrolled in graduate school. Brickey, Dunlap and Guzzo  will earn their bachelor's degrees this spring or summer.
- Gildon and Messina are both in their fifth year at Ohio State, while Cassidy, Dunlap and Guzzo are four-year Buckeyes. Brickey is in his second year at OSU and Hughes and Klee are grad transfers.Â
- The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions met in State College Jan. 26-27, with Penn State posting a sweep with two 4-3 wins.Â
- Ohio State won three straight games vs. teams ranked No. 4, with two victories vs. Wisconsin at home Feb. 16-17 and a road win at Michigan State last Friday. The sweep of the Badgers was the program's first vs. a Top 10 team since taking two from No. 7 Minnesota Dec. 8-9, 2017. Â
- This season, 22 of 23 Buckeye skaters have gotten on the scoresheet, including 20 goal scorers.
- The postseason starts next weekend and Ohio State will be on the road for a B1G Tournament quarterfinal series.
- Defenseman Scooter Brickey is third among NCAA defensemen with 11 goals this year. He is the first Buckeye blueliner with 10+ goals since Ryan Root in 1997-98.
- Stephen Halliday, who led the Buckeyes in assists (32) and points (41) as a freshman last season, has hit the 50-assist mark for his Ohio State career and has a team-best 22 helpers and 32 points this season.
- Ohio State leads the all-time series with Penn State, 25-20-4, including a 14-11-2 record in Columbus.
- The squads met in State College Jan. 26-27, when the Nittany Lions posted two 4-3 victories.Â
- The teams met five times in Columbus last season. After a series split in February 2023, Ohio State won a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal series in three games March 3-5, 2023. Ohio State took game one 5-1 before a 2-1 overtime loss. The Buckeyes prevailed in the third game with three unanswered goals to advance.
- Among current Buckeyes, Stephen Halliday leads with 10 assists and 13 points vs. the Nittany Lions (in nine games). Joe Dunlap is first with five goals, adding two assists for seven points (17 gp). Davis Burnside (9 gp) and Halliday are tied for second with three goals each. Patrick Guzzo is second behind Dunlap with 16 games played and Cam Thiesing has seen action in 15 games vs. the Nittany Lions, ranking second with four assists and third with six points.
- The Buckeyes will be on the road for the quarterfinal round of the Big Ten Tournament. The best-of-three series will be held March 8-10 on campus sites. Advancing teams will play in a single-game semifinal March 16, with the final March 23. All games will be on campus sites.Â
