COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 1 Ohio State heads to Texas on Wednesday for the first of three matches in the start over the next couple of weeks. The Buckeyes will be at No. 14 Baylor on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. ET time match at the Hurd Tennis Center.
- This will be just the ninth all-time meeting between the two teams and all meetings have come since 2004.
- Baylor won the first match in 2004 and the Buckeyes have since won the last seven matches. This will be just the fourth match that hasn’t been part of a national tournament. The Buckeyes won both ends of the home-and-home series in 2008 and 2009 and then won 4-0 in Columbus last February. The 4-2 win in 2008 was Ohio State’s lone match against Baylor in Waco.
- The final site of the 2015 NCAA Tournament was hosted by Baylor, but the Buckeyes never played there as their quarterfinal match against Texas A&M was moved to the indoor facility at SMU in Dallas.
- Ohio State is undefeated on the year at 14-0 and are the 2024 ITA Indoor Team National Champions. The title was the third in the program’s history.
- Of the 14 victories, seven have come against Top 25 ranked teams.
- Director of tennis Ty Tucker is in his 25th season and he is looking for his 700th career victory on Wednesday night. He has a remarkable career record of 699-101 (.874) and has guided the Scarlet and Gray to 17 consecutive Big Ten regular-season titles, 14 B1G Tournament crowns and 13 seasons of 30 or more wins.
- All six singles starters find themselves in the current ITA singles rankings. JJ Tracy leads the way with a career-high ranking of No. 3. Jack Anthrop is up to No. 12 and Cannon Kingsley is at No. 26. Justin Boulais is No. 37, Alexander Bernard is No. 100 and Robert Cash is at 111.
- In doubles, Tracy and Cash are ranked No. 4 while Tracy and Bernard are No. 17 and Anthrop and Preston Stearns are No. 56.
- JJ Tracy’s next win will be the 200th combined victory of his career (111 singles, 88 doubles). He leads the team this season with 22 singles wins and 19 doubles wins.
- Robert Cash is just 10 doubles wins shy of Peter Kobelt’s (2011-14) program record of 139 career doubles victories. Cash is 17-4 this season in doubles.
- Cannon Kingsley is three singles wins shy of 100 for his career.
