Buckeyes Beat Baylor as Tucker Collects 700th Victory

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State director of tennis Ty Tucker has made no secret of the importance of the doubles point. The Buckeyes lost the doubles point again but showed their dominance in singles, winning easily in four matches to claim a 4-1 victory on Wednesday night in Waco.
The win also marked a milestone in the remarkable career of Ty Tucker. This was his 700th career victory as he is now 700-101 in his 25 seasons.
Robert Cash and JJ Tracy both went 2-0 on the night, winning their doubles match and then putting the first two points on the board for the Buckeyes with matching 6-2, 6-2 victories.
Baylor won the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Cash and Tracy, the No. 4 ranked team in the country, collected their second win of the spring with a dominating 6-1 win over Tadeas Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz on court one. Cannon Kingsley and Andrew Lutschaunig fell by the same score on court three and Baylor got a break at 4-3 and would hold for a 6-3 win on court two.
The momentum was short lived as the Buckeyes cruised to six first-set victories in singles to regain control of the match. After Tracy and Cash’s victories, Justin Boulais took down Velcz on court one 6-4, 6-2 and then Jack Anthrop provided the clinching point with his own 6-2, 6-2 victory on court five.
Tracy’s two wins on Wednesday were his 200th and 201st victories of his career. Cash also pulls to within nine doubles wins of the program record.
The Buckeyes will have a week and a half off before returning to Texas to take on No. 10 Texas on March 10 and No. 12 Texas A&M on March 13.
