Buckeyes with Strong Day at CCFC Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's fencing team won its fourth consecutive Central Collegiate Fencing Conference title Saturday, with the Buckeye women finishing second in the event, held in French Field House in Columbus. The men were 4-0 on the day and the women posted a 5-1 record.

The conference championship weekend wraps up with the individual championships Sunday. The women will compete for individual titles in the morning, with fencing set to start at 8 a.m. and the awards ceremony slated for about 1:30 p.m. The men's competition will begin at 12:30 p.m., with the awards ceremony scheduled for about 5:45 p.m. Results will be available through Fencing Time Live. Admission and parking are free.

In all dual matches, Ohio State's No. 4-ranked men are now 33-7. The No. 13-ranked women are 26-18.

The Buckeye Men
Ohio State's men were swept the team titles, going undefeated as a team and in all three weapons. The Buckeyes defeated Detroit Mercy, Lawrence, Cleveland State and Wayne State en route to the titles.

In foil, Mitchell Huth was 5-0, while Solin Li, Edriss Ndiaye and Ilya Ayupov were all 4-0. Paul Veltrup led epee with seven wins, followed by Ayush Shah with six and Gabriel Feinberg with five. Samuel Rightler was first for saber with eight wins and Luca Fioretto picked up seven to rank second.

The men have captured the outright CCFC team title all four years of the conference. In the CCFC, Ohio State now has four men's epee and four men's foil titles (sharing both crowns in 2021) and three men's saber trophies.

The Buckeye Women
The women finished second, with the only loss to No. 8 Northwestern, 16-11. The Buckeyes topped Cleveland State, Lawrence, Detroit Mercy, Denison and Wayne State on the day.

Women's foil was a perfect 6-0 to claim the squad title. Saber posted a 5-1 ledger to finish second and epee was third, going 4-2.

Claire Teresa Galavotti and Dasha Myroniuk led foil with seven wins each and Alina Lee picked up six victories. In saber, Ele Perrier and Arlow Wiggers each posted eight wins, while Katherine Larimer and Maria Alexe had seven wins each. Karina Dyner led epee with nine victories and Yeva Mazur posted eight wins on the day.

The women's foil title was their third straight.
