Buckeyes Close Dual Season at Michigan State Friday

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 6 Ohio State (14-2, 6-1) ends the 2023-24 dual season at Michigan State (9-5, 2-5) Friday in East Lansing. Match time is set for 7 p.m. with the Big Ten Network providing the broadcast.

The Ohio State Department of Athletics and its wrestling program recognized seniors Sammy Sasso, Nick Boykin and Gavin Hoffman during prematch ceremonies last Sunday vs. Indiana.
The Buckeyes finished its home season with a record of 6-1 at the Covelli Center after a 32-6 win over Indiana the last time out.
Ohio State split matches at No. 1 Penn State (L, 28-9) and at No. 14 Rutgers (W, 22-12). The No. 6 Buckeyes enter their final dual of the year at MSU with a record of 14-2 overall and 6-1 in the Big Ten.
There were three-consecutive upsets in the win over the Scarlet Knights. Luke Geog started with a 4-3 win at 197 over No. 12 John Poznanski. Heavyweight Nick Feldman then earned a 4-2 victory over No. 7 Yaraslau Slavikouski before 125-pounder Brendan McCrone took down No. 13 Dean Peterson, 7-1.
The Buckeyes improved to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten with a dramatic win over No. 13 Michigan Jan. 26 at the Covelli Center in Columbus. Down 19-17 headed to the final bout of the night, Feldman defeated No. 4 Lucas Davison of Michigan, 4-3, to give the Buckeyes the 20-19 victory.
Feldman's efforts earned him the Big Ten and NCAA Wrestler of the Week (Jan. 30). It was his second Big Ten honor and fourth for the Buckeyes.
Feldman also was awarded his Ohio State "Black Shirt" after the Michigan dual. He is the 16th Buckeye and ninth on the current roster to earn Black Shirt status. Go to the last two pages of these notes for more on the Ohio State Black Shirts.
Sophomore Jesse Mendez has scored 55 team points for the Buckeyes this year to lead the team. He has added bonus points in 10 of 12 dual wins.
Redshirt freshman Nic Bouzakis (133) has contributed 50 points to Ohio State team scores in 11 of 15 duals in which he has competed. He has seven bonus-point victories in duals this year.
Feldman owns 11 dual wins, seven by bonus for a total of 46 team points this year.
This will be the 75th dual between the Buckeyes and Spartans. Ohio State is 33-40-1 overall in the series. The Buckeyes have won the last 13 overall and 17 of the last 18. In East Lansing, Ohio State has won six of the last seven meetings.
