Buckeyes Finish Strong at Puerto Rico Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite not being in position to win the tournament, Ohio State closed strong on Tuesday at the Puerto Rico Classic. The Buckeyes posted a final round 279, their lowest of the tournament, to finish in ninth place at 22-under par.
Ohio State started rough on Tuesday and was over-par through nine holes. But the Buckeyes made a total of 14 birdies and an eagle on the closing nine holes to post their best round of the week.
Individually, Neal Shipley carded a bogey-free 67 in the final round and finished in a tie for 11th at 11-under par. This was his third double-digit under-par tournament this season and it was his fourth Top-20 finish in five events. For the week, Shipley made 11 birdies, an eagle and just two bogeys.
Maxwell Moldovan also finished strong on Tuesday, birdying his final hole for a 3-under 69. He topped the team with five birdies on the day. Moldovan carded three under-par rounds and finished in a tie for 25th at 7-under par. Like Shipley, Moldovan has been under-par in all five events this season.
Adam Wallin had his best round of the week on Tuesday, posting a 2-under 70. He was at par or better in all three rounds and finished at 3-under for the tournament. Freshman Jack Vojtko, playing in just his second collegiate tournament, carded rounds of 72-70-75 and finished at 1-over par for the event. He made four birdies in a six-hole stretch on the second nine.
Jackson Chandler was a shot behind Vojtko at 2-over as he carded a second-consecutive round of 1-over 73. Chandler made a pair of doubles in his first six holes but rebounded to play the final 12 holes in a bogey-free 3-under. Patrick Schmucking, who was playing this week as an individual, withdrew prior to the round with back soreness.
The Buckeyes will have a quick turnaround as they will get right back to action next week at the Watersound Collegiate in Panama City, Fla. The 54-hole event runs Feb. 19-21.
