COLUMBUS, Ohio – In its final match at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Seattle, the No. 12 Ohio State women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 6 seed and No. 10-ranked Texas in consolation play Sunday evening. The Buckeyes were down 3-1 but freshmen Teah Chavez and Audrey Spencer both won in three sets to tie the match. The Longhorns took the court one match in three sets for the team win. Shelly Bereznyak also had a singles win for the Buckeyes, who are now 6-3 on the year.

How it Happened
- Texas won 6-1 on court two and 6-2 on court one for the doubles point and 1-0 lead. On court three, the Buckeye duo of Madeline Atway and Teah Chavez was on serve 4-3 when the match was abandoned.
- The Longhorns won in straight sets on court three for a 2-0 lead, with No. 36 Malaika Rapolu defeating No. 123 Sydni Ratliff, 6-0, 6-2.
- Buckeye Shelly Bereznyak was a straight-set winner against Taisiya Pachkaleva on court five for a 2-1 match score. In the first set Bereznyak led 5-1; the Longhorn drew to 5-4 but the Buckeye closed it out, 6-4. In the second set Bereznyak won the final four games to take the set, 6-3.
- Texas responded with a straight set win on court two for a 3-1 advantage. No. 29 Tanya Sasnouskaya defeated No. 73 Luciana Perry, 7-5, 6-4.
- After losing the first set in a tiebreaker on court four, Buckeye freshman Chavez dropped just two games the rest of the way to down No. 120-ranked Charlotte Chavatipon, 6-7 (2), 6-1, 6-1.
- Ohio State rookie Audrey Spencer followed with a three-set win of her own to tie the team score. On court six against Vivian Ovrootsky, Spencer lost the opening set, 6-4. In the second set, she was down 5-2 but won three games in a row for five-all and eventually prevailed in a tiebreaker, 7-5. It was all Spencer in the third set, as she jumped out to a 5-0 lead and won 6-1 to deadlock the team score.
- The team match came down to court one, between Buckeye Irina Cantos Siemers, ranked 14th, and Sabina Zeynalova. The Longhorn won the first set, 6-4, but the Buckeye took the second, 6-3, winning four of the last five games. In the third set, Cantos Siemers used a break and a hold to get back on serve at three-all. Zeynalova held for 4-3 and then broke on the no-ad point for the chance to serve out the win and claimed the final set, 6-3.
- The loss was the first in dual play for Cantos Siemers this season, as she is now 7-1. Bereznyak is 5-2, with Spencer 3-2 and Chavez 2-3. Â
- A road match at No. 24 Arizona State is set for Feb. 25 and the Buckeyes will then return home for three matches in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. After facing nonconference foes No. 21 Washington March 3 and No. 6 Pepperdine March 8, Big Ten play opens with a match vs. No. 5 Michigan March 15.
- Admission and parking are free for all regular season matches in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
