- This will be the 169th all-time meeting between the two teams and the series is dead even at 84-84. The overall point margin is also close as the Buckeyes have outscored Iowa by just 16 points in the 167 meetings. Officially, taking into account vacated games, Iowa holds an 82-79 edge.
- Last year, the teams met three times and the Buckeyes would win the season series 3-2. Each team won on its home floor in the regular season and then the Buckeyes won 73-69 in Chicago on the second day of the Big Ten Tournament. Ohio State pulled away early behind a near triple-double from Isaac Likekele and won 93-77 in the first meeting in Columbus. Iowa then made the Buckeye miscues hurt in the meeting in Iowa City, winning that game 92-75. In the Big Ten Tournament, Bruce Thornton led the way with 17 points and six assists while Roddy Gayle Jr. hit two big shots late to put OSU in front for good.
- Ohio State scored 75 points, shot 50 percent from the floor and only turned the ball over six times but a veteran Illinois squad made more key plays and downed the Buckeyes on Tuesday night 87-75 in Columbus. Jamison Battle led the Buckeyes with 21 points and six rebounds. Roddy Gayle Jr. notched his fourth 20-point game of the season, finishing with 20 points, two rebounds and two assists. Evan Mahaffey also had a nice game, going 6-of-7 from the floor for 13 points, his second-highest total of the season.
- This week, Jamison Battle was named one of 10 candidates for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year. He is the lone Big Ten player on the list. Battle is one of two forwards in the country with 60 or more threes and averages better than 5.0 rebounds per game.
- Point guard Bruce Thornton has matched his assist total from last season through 21 games this season. Last year in 35 games, Thornton had 92 assists and 46 turnovers. So far this year, he has 92 assists and just 21 turnovers.
- Friday's game will feature the Top-2 three-point shooters in the league in Jamison Battle and Iowa's Payton Sandfort. Both players have made 60 three-pointers while Battle is shooting a league-best 44.4 percent and Sandfort is at 39.5 percent.
- The Buckeyes are looking to snap a 14-game road skid as their last win in a true road game came on Jan. 1, 2023 at Northwestern.
- Iowa comes in at 12-9 overall and a game ahead of the Buckeyes at 4-6 in the league. The Hawkeyes have lost three of their last four and have a record of 8-3 at home this season. Three players average 15.0+ per game, led by Tony Perkins at 15.5 ppg.
