Makenna Webster and Katie Fichtner are first team selections
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Buckeyes were well-represented on the NFHCA All-Region teams that were announced today. Ohio State finished with two first-team honorees – graduate student Makenna Webster and junior Katie Fichtner – and two second-team selections: senior goalie Abby Danson and sophomore Anne Marie Krebs.
The honors for Webster, Krebs and Fichtner add to their growing postseason resume. All three were also All-Big Ten selections. Danson, meanwhile, earns all-region honors for the first time in her career.
Webster, a St. Louis native, finished the regular season third in the Big Ten in points (40), goals (15) and assists (10). She scored at least one goal in 11 of Ohio State's 18 regular season games (the Buckeyes were 10-1 in those contests) and against Big Ten opponents, Webster totaled 11 points on five goals and an assist.
Over the last two seasons, Webster totaled 89 points on 33 goals and 23 assists. That offensive production helped Ohio State go 28-11 in that span with eight wins over ranked opponents.
Fichtner, a junior back from Harwood, Md. who is also a team captain, earned all-region honors for the first time in her career. As a defender, she was integral in Ohio State notching six shutouts during the regular season. Offensively, she was the team's second leading scorer with 16 points (seven goals, two assists). Nearly half of those 16 points came against Big Ten opponents when she scored goals against Michigan State, Maryland and Indiana.
Krebs, a sophomore, played in and started all 19 games last season and tied for third on the team with three assists. A Louisville, Ky. native, Krebs' play in the midfield helped fuel an Ohio State offense that ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring average (eighth – 3.00), goals per game (ninth – 3.06) and scoring margin (sixth – 2.02). The Buckeyes scored four or more goals in nine of their 18 regular season games.
Danson had the best statistical year of her first-year career, finishing among the Big Ten and national leaders in goals-against average (1.44), save percentage (.791) and shutouts (three). She set the program record for career shutouts and is also in the top 10 in career saves (289), save percentage (.724) and wins (47).
