
Buckeyes Hit the Road for Big Ten/ACC Challenge

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team heads to the east coast this weekend to take on a pair of top 15 opponents in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge hosted by Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. The Buckeyes meet No. 12 Syracuse at 3 p.m. Friday and No. 5 Virginia at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Ohio State returns home to host Delaware and Cornell next weekend at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes meet the Blue Hens at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11 and face off against the Big Red at noon Sunday, Sept. 13. Admission and parking for Ohio State field hockey games are free. Briefly on the Buckeyes
- Ohio State is 1-1 on the season. The Buckeyes dropped their season-opener to Old Dominion, 3-2, and defeated Bellarmine, 2-0, for the first win of the season.
- Emily Barker leads the team with three points on the year and has already surpassed her career high point total after tallying two points in the last two seasons for the Buckeyes. The senior from Columbus recorded an assist in the first game of the year and scored against the Knights on her Senior Day.
- Four Buckeyes have scored through two games for the Buckeyes. Grace Dixon, Sienna Golden and Carmela Maro join Barker as the team's goal scorers in 2026. Dixon's goal in the season opener was her first of her career.
- Freshman goalkeeper Avery Alleva earned a shutout in her first collegiate game and start in Sunday's win over Bellarmine. The Leesburg, Va. native recorded four saves in her debut. The Buckeyes are one of five Big Ten teams to record a shutout in the opening weekend of the season.
- This weekend's games are the first for the Buckeyes against a ranked opponent in 2026. In addition to this weekend's slate, Ohio State has five ranked future opponents – No. 1 Northwestern, No. 4 Iowa, No. 8 Michigan, No. 13 Maryland and No. 20 Rutgers.
- Ohio State last met Syracuse and Virginia last season in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge played in Columbus. Both games were decided by one goal, with the Buckeyes falling to the Orange in overtime, 2-1, and dropping the game against the Cavaliers, 1-0.
- Ohio State and Syracuse have met 10 time prior to Friday's contest. Ohio State has two wins in the series, winning the 2024 matchup, 5-0, and the 2010 meeting, 3-2.
- Sunday is the 16th meeting between Ohio State and Virginia in a series that started in 1981. The teams have played five neutral site matchups all-time and the Buckeyes have two wins in the series with the last being a 4-3 victory during the 2014 season.
