COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State field hockey team closed its first weekend of the 2026 season with a win, defeating Bellarmine, 2-0, on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Buckeye Varsity Field.

The first win of the season for the Buckeyes (1-1) was highlighted by a list of career firsts for goalkeeper Avery Alleva and a Senior Day goal from Emily Barker.

How it Happened

Ohio State capitalized on just its second shot of the day as Sienna Golden hit the back of the cage at 10:01 in the opening quarter.
Shots were even at two apiece after the first quarter with Ohio State holding the one-goal advantage at the quarter break.
The Buckeyes doubled their lead on their first chance of the second quarter, this time with Emily Barker scoring at 17:10. Her goal was assisted by Victoria Kutz.
Ohio State's defense held Bellarmine without a shot on goal for the first 30 minutes and just two shots in the first half.
The second half was scoreless and Ohio State's defense stood strong against a third quarter offensive surge from Bellarmine to hold on to the shutout.
Rookie goalkeeper Avery Alleva was tested for the first time in the third, stopping all four shots on goal from Bellarmine in the frame. Ohio State successfully defended five third quarter penalty corners by the Knights to keep them off the board.
Following the game, the Buckeyes recognized their senior class of Barker, Reagan Eickhoff and Anne Marie Krebs.

Buckeyes By the Numbers

Both goals were the first goals of the season for Barker and Golden. Barker now leads the team with three points on the season after recording an assist in Friday's season-opener. Golden's game-winning goal is her second of her career.
Alleva made her first career start and first career appearance in goal for the Buckeyes. She stopped four shots on her way to her first win and shutout of her collegiate career.
Kutz' assist on the second Buckeye goal is just the third of her career and her third career point.
Ohio State improves to 3-0 over Bellarmine all-time with the win.
