COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior midfielder Greg Langermeier and senior defender Bobby Van Buren will captain the Ohio State men's lacrosse team in 2025, head coach Nick Myers announced Wednesday.
"These two men not only represent a special group of seniors, but both embody the true essence of Buckeye Lacrosse by modelling the way both on the field and off," Myers said. "I am extremely proud of the leaders that Greg and Bobby have developed into during their careers at Ohio State and confident in their ability to lead our program into what lies ahead."
Van Buren, from Wingate, N.C., is an All-American close defenseman for the Buckeyes. A two-time All-Big Ten honoree, Van Buren has played 33 games in three seasons with 16 caused turnovers and 43 ground balls. He was named a preseason All-American for Ohio State in 2024 before he was forced to miss the majority of the campaign due to injury. He returns in 2025 as one of the Buckeyes' three veteran starters on defense. He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and three-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete and is pursuing a degree in sport industry.
"I'm super honored and thankful to be named captain," Van Buren said. "Growing up really only playing club lacrosse, I wasn't often truly a part of a locker room or playing for something bigger than myself, so for my teammates and coaches to believe in me as a captain means everything. The last three and a half years of my life have truly been some of the most memorable, and that's a huge reflection of the players and coaches that make me better every day."
Langermeier, a Westlake, Ohio native, has played 44 games in his Buckeye career. In three seasons, he has grabbed 66 ground balls, caused 29 turnovers and recorded eight points for the team. Langermeier is also the 2024-25 Hammer Recipient, an honor given to a player on the team that exemplifies relentless effort and toughness on and off the field. He is a three-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten award recipient and is currently working towards a degree in finance.
"Being named captain while having the chance to represent this brotherhood and university is an honor that cannot be expressed in words," Langermeier said. "I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to lead such an incredible group of men and could not be more thankful for the teammates, coaches, and mentors who have shaped me along the way."
