
Buckeyes Fall to No. 15 Minnesota in Regular Season Finale

Ohio State ended the regular season with a loss on Friday night against a ranked Minnesota team on the road.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (14-16, 7-13 B1G) fell to No. 15 Minnesota (20-10, 13-7 B1G) in four sets (16-25, 32-30, 14-25, 15-25) in Minneapolis on Friday night in the 2024 regular season finale.
After two early ties in set one, the Gophers dominated the rest of the set and won 25-16 to take the lead in the match. Set two was a marathon, with the Buckeyes at one point going on a 14-5 run. The score was tied 13 times in the set, with the teams trading match point until the Buckeyes prevailed, 32-30. In both sets three and four, the Gophers took an early lead and never looked back. They won the third set, 25-14, and the fourth set, 25-15.
Emily Londot recorded her 18th double-double of the season; she had a team-high 13 kills and added 11 digs. Londot also had four aces. Grace Egan was the first Buckeye to reach 10 kills and she finished the match with 12 kills and was just short of a double-double with nine digs. Rylee Rader also had double-digit kills, finishing the match with 10. Mia Tuman led all players with 43 assists and Olivia Hasbrook led the team in digs with 17.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes and Gophers traded points early in set one before Minnesota got ahead, 12-8. A Gopher service error and a kill from Emmi Sellman left Ohio State trailing by just two points at 12-10. The Gophers extended their lead to 18-10 with a 6-0 run. Trailing by 10, 22-12, another Gopher service error, a kill from Egan and an ace from Londot cut the Minnesota lead to seven, 22-15, but the Gophers only allowed the Buckeyes one more point in the set as they won set one, 25-16.
Set two was a battle between the teams, with Ohio State needing 32 points to clinch the set. After tying things up 5-5, the Gophers went on a 6-0 run to get ahead, 11-5. The Buckeyes answered with a 15-6 run, which included four kills from Londot, two kills each from Sellman, Rader and Egan and an ace from Tuman, to put them in the lead, 20-17. Soon the Buckeyes and Gophers were tied again at 23-23 and the teams continued to trade points, tying the score seven more times to get to 30-30. A kill from Egan gave the Buckeyes the 31-30 lead and a block from Egan and Eloise Brandewie clinched the set for Ohio State, 32-30.

Kills from Brandewie and Sellman and an attack error from Minnesota cut the Buckeyes' deficit to five points at 15-10, but the Gophers went on a 5-0 run to increase their lead to 20-10. A kill from Rader and another ace from Tuman cut the Minnesota lead to eight, 20-12, but the Gophers held on the rest of the set, taking the third set by a 25-14 margin.
Minnesota again jumped out to a quick lead in set four, getting ahead of the Buckeyes, 12-4. Two aces and a kill from Londot cut the Gopher lead to five, 12-7. Minnesota responded to take an 18-8 lead before the Buckeyes scored three straight points to trim their deficit to 18-11. Minnesota maintained the advantage the rest of the set to win by a 25-15 margin and end the match.
