COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State has reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the ninth time in program history and will take on Auburn on Friday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C. The match is set to kick at 2 p.m. and it will be streamed on ESPN+.
The winner will face the winner of Wake Forest and Colorado in the third round on Sunday afternoon.
This is Ohio State's 18th NCAA Tournament appearance and the 14th in the last 16 seasons.
The Buckeyes are 15-16-2 in 33 NCAA Tournament matches, all of which have come under head coach Lori Walker-Hock.
Friday's match against Auburn will be just the third meeting all-time between the programs and the second this season. Each team won on their home field in the home-and-home meetings last year and this year. The Buckeyes beat the Tigers 2-0 last year in Columbus behind goals from Emma Sears and Amanda Schlueter. This year, Auburn got a goal in the 49th minute from Olivia Woodson to claim a 1-0 victory in Auburn on Sept. 8.
All-time, the Buckeyes are 10-13-4 all-time against teams currently in the SEC.
This is just the third time Ohio State has played a non-conference opponent twice in the same season. The Buckeyes faced Dayton twice in 2010 and West Virginia twice in 2016. Both of the second meetings came in the NCAA Tournament.
Ohio State is 13-5-3 on the season and coming off a solid 4-1 victory over James Madison last Friday evening in Columbus. Schlueter opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the game, which was the quickest OSU has scored a goal in an NCAA Tournament game. Scoring leader Kailyn Dudukovich notched her 18th goal of the season and then sisters Jacinda and Jadin Bonham linked-up for the final goal of the game. Jacinda had a goal and an assist on the night while Mirann Gacioch had a pair of assists.
The Bonham's became the first pair of OSU sisters to combine for a goal.
Dudukovich's 18 goals on the year are the most by a Big Ten player and second-most in the country. She extends her program record to 43 career goals and she is tied for the most points in a career with 96.
Schlueter has nine goals and a Big Ten leading 11 assists on the year.
Auburn also claimed a 4-1 opening round victory over FIU last Friday. Auburn is in the Top 10 in scoring in the country while Anna Haddock is second in the country with 13 assists. The Tigers were limited to one goal or fewer in just seven of their 20 matches this season and Ohio State was of those teams.
