Ohio State combines for 12-2 record in two-day event

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing teams traveled to San Diego, Calif., for the West Invitational this weekend. In the two-day event in the SolCity Sports Center on the Alliant International University campus, the Buckeye women were 7-1, with the men 5-1.

Both the Buckeye men and women defeated Air Force, Stanford and Brandeis on Saturday. The women also picked up a win vs. UCSD, while the men fell to the Tritons and the women dropped their dual meet vs. Northwestern. Sunday, the women were 3-0 with victories over Harvard, Incarnate Word and Tufts and the men downed UIW and the Crimson.

For the women, the foil squad was a combined 7-1, while saber was 6-2 and epee was 4-4. Epee led the men with a 5-1 ledger and saber was 4-2, with the foil unit 3-3.

Alina Lee led all women and the women's foil squad with an 18-2 ledger, while foilist Dariia Myroniuk was 15-5. In women's saber, Natalia Botello had a 12-6 ledger, with Katherine Larimer and Hamsika Arnipalli each posting seven wins. Marie-Frederique Millette led the women's epee squad with a 12-9 mark, Talia Weiss had eight victories and Lucy Whittemore won seven bouts.

For the men, epeeist Gabriel Feinberg was first with a 14-0 mark and Miles Weiss was second for the epee squad with a 10-5 mark. Justin Vogler paced men's foil with an 11-3 mark, followed by Ilya Ayupov with nine victories. In men's saber, Avin Rai was first with a 7-2 mark, while Nolan Williams was 6-1, Hank Bauer was 6-3 and Eddie Maklin was 6-6.
