Buckeye This and That
- The Buckeyes have never faced American International, which is part of Atlantic Hockey. AIC is one of just four current Division I teams Ohio State has never played in hockey, joining Northeastern and three of the newest D1 schools - Augustana, St. Thomas and Stonehill.Â
- Ohio State is 32-25-4 all-time in the first game of the season. Under Steve Rohlik, the team is 6-4-1 in season openers. Last year the Buckeyes kicked off the season with a 4-3 road win at Mercyhurst.
- The Buckeyes hosted Niagara in an exhibition game Sunday, winning 3-2 in overtime. Joe Dunlap tallied twice, including the gamewinner, with Davis Burnside also scoring. All 25 Buckeye skaters saw action in the game.
- Entering the year, grad transfer Gunnarwolfe Fontaine was the fifth-leading returning scorer in college hockey after posting 97 points in four years at Northeastern. He was eighth in career assists (65) among all returning players.
- Blueliner Aiden Hansen-Bukata, who spent four years at RIT, was fourth overall in career assists (69), third in career points by a defenseman (78) and third in career assists by a defenseman (69) among NCAA returnees at the start of the campaign.
- Patrick Guzzo's 135 career games played ranked eighth among all NCAA players and Hansen-Bukata was tied for third among defensemen (132).
- Ohio State will host 17 games in Columbus during the regular season, including 12 B1G matchups.Â
- The Buckeyes returned 18 players from the 2023-24 squad, adding 10 newcomers (three transfers and seven freshmen).Â
- Carter Krier joined the Buckeye staff as an assistant coach during the offseason.
- Ohio State will play in its fifth outdoor game of the modern era in January, as The Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series will be played at Wrigley Field in Chicago Jan. 3-4.Â
- #ProBucks Mason Lohrei (Boston) and Dakota Joshua (Vancouver, on injured reserve) started the year on NHL rosters. Mason Jobst was named captain of AHL Rochester Wednesday. Max McCormick (Coachella Valley) and Zac Dalpe (Charlotte) are also captains in the AHL.
