Buckeyes Prevail in Overtime in Exhibition Game vs. Niagara

Ohio State opens regular season Oct. 11-12 vs. AIC at home
COLUMBUS, Ohio – In an exhibition game, the Ohio State men's hockey defeated Niagara, 3-2 in overtime, Sunday afternoon in Value City Arena. The Buckeyes trailed 2-1 early in the second but shut down the Purple Eagles the rest of the way, tying the game in the second and then prevailing in overtime. Joe Dunlap led Ohio State with two goals, including the gamewinner.

"You want to win in everything you do. That's a real positive. You had a lot of guys get some ice tonight and that always gets guys off on the right foot. There's a lot of positives tonight, but there's a lot of things we need to clean up, but that's to be expected."

How it Happened
- Joe Dunlap opened the scoring, tallying from in front off assists from William Smith and Jake Rozzi, at 8:40.
- Niagara tied the game on a Braden Doyle tally, sending the teams to intermission deadlocked at one.
- Just 1:24 into the second Niagara took a 2-1 lead on a Noah Hackett score.
- Davis Burnside deadlocked the game at two, as Gunnarwolfe Fontaine found him on the right wing and he beat the goalie over the shoulder. Brent Johnson had the second assist.
- There was no more scoring until overtime, which was 3-on-3. The Buckeyes converted after holding the puck in the Niagara zone for an extended stretch. Riley Thompson passed to Dunlap in the high slot and he scored with the goalie screened. Theo Wallberg also picked up an assist on the winner.
- Ohio State outshot Niagara, 33-24, in the game, including 18-11 over the final 41:49. Shots were 15-13 in favor of Ohio State in the first period.
- Logan Terness started in goal for the Buckeyes and made 14 saves on 16 shots, while Kristoffer Eberly closed the game out and stopped all eight shots he faced. Three goalies for Niagara combined for 30 saves.
- Ohio State was unable to score on four power play chances and was 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
- All 25 Buckeye skaters saw action in the exhibition game.
