COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will close the fall portion of the schedule this week by participating in the prestigious East Lake Cup at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga. An 18-hole stroke-play round on Monday will determine an individual champion and set seedings for team match play, which begins on Tuesday.
The Golf Channel will have live coverage from 3-6 p.m. all three days.
- Now in its 10th year, the East Lake Cup invites the final four teams from last year’s NCAA Championship to compete at the site of the PGA TOUR Championship.
- Ohio State’s lineup this week will consist of five Ohioans in Tyler Sabo, Jack Vojtko, Vaughn Harber, Joe Wilson IV and Topher Reed.
- So far this fall, the Buckeyes have finished seventh at the Folds of Honor Collegiate and the Tindall, sixth at The Blessings Collegiate Invitational and then went 1-2-0 at the Barbara Nicklaus Cup earlier this month.
- Vojtko has led the team in scoring through the first three stroke-play events, averaging 72.56 over nine rounds. He has a pair of rounds in the 60s and two Top 20 finishes.
- Sabo is the lone Buckeye who played in the NCAA Championship last season. He halved his match in the quarterfinals and then beat Auburn’s Josiah Gilbert 1-up in the semifinals. He is just two shots behind Vojtko this fall in scoring at 72.78.
- Freshman Vaugh Harber has played in every event and is averaging 73.67. He led the team at the Barbara Nicklaus Cup at Muirfield Village, winning two of his three matches and halving the other.
- Joe Wilson IV finished 8th at The Blessings Collegiate, the best finish for a Buckeye this fall. After a tough start, he has averaged 72.1 over six of his last seven stroke-play rounds.
- Topher Reed played at the Golden Flash Individual Invitational two weeks ago and shot rounds of 72-73 to finish fifth at 1-over par. He has played in 10 events in his career, which is second among the Buckeye five this week behind Sabo’s 11.
- It looks like it’s going to be a great week in Atlanta with temperatures around 70 on Monday and near 80 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
