Ohio State improves to 5-0-1 on the year
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Kristoffer Eberly stopped all 22 shots he faced and Davis Burnside and Damien Carfagna both tallied in the second period, leading the No. 19/17t Ohio State men's hockey team to a 2-0 victory at Bowling Green Saturday evening in Slater Family Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio. The Buckeyes, who won 3-1 Friday in Columbus, earn the series sweep and have won five games in a row, improving to 5-0-1 on the year. BGSU is now 3-3 overall.

The shutout was the first for Eberly in his collegiate career. Graduate transfer Gunnarwolfe Fontaine had an assist on Burnside's power play goal to reach the 100-point mark in his collegiate career.

How it Happened
- Neither team scored in the opening 20 minutes, with Ohio State outshooting Bowling Green, 8-7, notching seven of the final eight shots on net. Each team had one power play in the first.
- At 4:46 of the second period Davis Burnside put the Buckeyes on the board with a power play goal, scoring from the high slot to finish a tic-tac-toe passing play with Aiden Hansen-Bukata and Gunnarwolfe Fontaine.
- Damien Carfagna doubled the Buckeye lead at 12:05. Brent Johnson found Carfagna above the faceoff circle and he converted for his second score of the weekend. Sam Deckhut picked up the second assist on the tally.
- In the second, the Buckeyes outshot the Falcons, 14-6.
- The third period started with the teams 4x4 after a Falcon was called for a minor and a Buckeye was called for a major with one second left in the second. Ohio State was able to kill off the remaining time on the major in the third to maintain its lead. Â
- The Buckeyes had a major power play opportunity of their own with 8:01 left in the third but were unable to take advantage and extend the lead.
- Bowling Green pulled its goalie with 45 seconds remaining and a final shot block from Hansen-Bukata closed out the win.
- The Buckeyes had the edge in shots in the third, 11-9, and ended the game ahead, 33-22.
- Kristoffer Eberly made 22 saves in 59:40 for the shutout. BG's Cole Moore had 31 stops in 59:15.
- The Buckeyes had 12 shot blocks in the win, as Chris Romaine led the way with four. Bowling Green blocked 17 Ohio State shot attempts.
- Ohio State was 1-for-4 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill.Â
- Hansen-Bukata leads Ohio State with seven assists and eight points. He has a point in five of six games this season.
- Carfagna had a goal in each game vs. Bowling Green and has three on the year. He is second on the squad with seven points.
- Burnside had three points in the series, with two assists Friday and his first goal of the season Saturday.
- Ohio State is holding opponents to 1.33 goals per game and has allowed one goal or fewer in four straight outings.
- Eberly is 3-0-0 this year, with a 1.00 goals-against average and .962 save percentage.
- This season, Ohio State is 16-for-18 on the penalty kill (.889) and it was 7-for-7 in the series.
- Ohio State will host former CCHA foe Lake Superior State for a two-game series Friday and Saturday in Value City Arena. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. in game one and 5 p.m. in game two. B1G+ will stream both matchups. Game one is the Our Honor Defend Military Appreciation Game. A free postgame skate is planned for game two and Script Ohio on Ice will be performed at the first intermission that night.
