
Ohio State Falls at No. 10 Purdue in Three Tight Sets

The Buckeyes and Boilermakers required extra play to decide two of the three sets on Wednesday night in West Lafayette.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (8-11, 1-8 B1G) fell to No. 10 Purdue (16-4, 7-2 B1G) in a close three-set match (26-28, 19-25, 25-27) on Wednesday evening in West Lafayette.

After reaching 20 points in the first set, there were four ties and lead changes and Purdue squeaked out a 28-26 set win. The Boilermakers used a 6-0 run midway through the second set to propel them to a 25-19 set win. After trailing by as many as five points in the third set, the Buckeyes battled back to tie the set at 23 and take its first lead afterwards but ultimately Purdue closed the match with a 27-25 set win.

Emmi Sellman was the first Buckeye to 10 digs as she finished the match with a career-high 11 digs. Mia Tuman recorded a career-high six blocks. Emily Londot totaled 14 kills and 12 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. Olivia Hasbrook finished the match with 10 digs.

How it HappenedÂ
The Buckeyes scored the first three points of the match, beginning with an Emily Londot kill. The Boilermakers used a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the match at 7-5. Ohio State used a 3-0 run of its own to tie the set at nine and another 3-0 run to take a 12-10 lead on an ace from Kaitlyn Hoffman. OSU led by an 18-14 margin following three unanswered points to force a Purdue timeout. The Buckeyes called timeout after the Boilermakers strung together a trio of points to get within one at 19-18. Purdue used a 5-1 run to take a 24-23 lead, its first since 9-8. Both teams had set points but the Boilermakers took the first set by a 28-26 margin.

After being tied at seven, Purdue scored five of the next six points to take a 12-8 lead and prompt an OSU timeout. The Boilermakers extended their run to 6-0 and their lead to 15-8. Purdue led by as many as eight points at 19-11 but a 5-1 Ohio State run trimmed the Buckeyes' deficit in half at 20-16 as the Boilermakers called timeout. OSU would get no closer as Purdue claimed the 25-19 set win.

The Buckeyes trailed by between two and four points during the first half of the set and went into the media timeout down 11-15. Ohio State put together a 5-1 run to get within one at 20-19 on a block from Londot and Rylee Rader, forcing a Purdue timeout. The Buckeyes tied the score at 23 with a 4-1 run on a kill from Reese Wuebker. Ohio State took its first lead of the set at 25-24 on a block from Tuman and Eloise Brandewie but Purdue scored the final three points to secure a 27-25 set win.
