Ohio State Edged in Five Sets Against No. 15 Minnesota

The Buckeyes wrapped up their span of four top-15 opponents in 10 days on Sunday in the pink match.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (8-12, 1-9 B1G) fell in five sets (25-16, 25-18, 22-25, 16-25, 10-15) to No. 15 Minnesota (14-6, 7-3 B1G) on Sunday afternoon in the Buckeyes' annual pink match.

Ohio State used runs of 4-0 and 5-0 to separate themselves for a 25-16 win in the first set. The Buckeyes held off a late Gopher push in the second set to win the set by a 25-18 margin. Minnesota held a lead for the majority of the third set and earned a 25-22 set win. The Gophers won the fourth set by a 25-16 margin to force a fifth set. Minnesota took the fifth set by a 15-10 margin after Ohio State held an early lead in the set.

Emily Londot sealed the second set of the match with her 10th kill and finished with 21 kills and 13 digs, good for her 12th double-double of the season. Emmi Sellman (16) joined Londot in double-figure kills. Olivia Hasbrook recorded her 18th match of the season with at least 10 digs, totaling a team-high 14 digs today.

Sellman and Eloise Brandewie open the match with a block and teams alternated scoring until a 3-0 Minnesota run gave the Gophers a 6-4 lead. Ohio State used a 4-0 run to take a 10-8 advantage and then led by a 15-11 margin at the media timeout following back-to-back kills from Londot. The Buckeyes extended their lead to 18-11 on a 5-0 run. Ohio State clinched a 25-16 set win on a block from Rylee Rader and Mia Tuman.

Minnesota scored the first two points of the second set before three-consecutive kills from Sellman. Ohio State strung together four-unanswered points to take a 9-5 lead. The Gophers called timeout after back-to-back Buckeye points gave OSU a 12-7 lead. Ohio State extended its lead to 19-11 with a 5-0 run and led by as many as nine points at 21-12. After a 5-0 Minnesota run, OSU closed the set with four of the final five points to win the set by a 25-18 margin on Londot's 10th kill of the match.

Minnesota scored the next two points out of the timeout and Ohio State called timeout trailing 20-17. The Buckeyes got within one again at 22-21 on a kill from Sellman but the Gophers extended the match with a 25-22 set win.

Minnesota put together a 3-0 run to take a 13-10 lead and prompt an Ohio State timeout. The Gophers extended their lead to 20-13 on the back of a 5-1 run to force a second OSU timeout. Minnesota won the set by a 25-16 margin.
