Buckeyes will look to bounce back at home Friday versus Indiana
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The third-ranked Ohio State field hockey team (12-2, 3-2 Big Ten) saw its three-game winning streak snapped on Sunday when they fell on the road to Rutgers (6-7, 3-4 Big Ten) by a 1-0 final. Goalkeeper Abby Danson notched five saves in the game and despite pressing hard, Ohio State couldn't manage to score an equalizing goal in the second half.
How it Happened
The Scarlet Knights opened up the scoring with 19 seconds left in the first quarter, finding the open goal after a drive down the field. Both teams combined for four shots in the first 15 minutes with neither generating a penalty corner. The second quarter went scoreless, with Ohio State outshooting Rutgers 7-3 and adding five corners.
The Scarlet Knights maintained steady control offensively in the third quarter, recording six shots and one corner, but couldn't find the goal. Danson notched four saves in the third quarter alone. The Rutgers defense didn't allow a single shot by the Buckeyes in the fourth quarter, leaving the score at 1-0.
