
Buckeyes Earn Dominant Wins Against Kentucky, Akron

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11 women's swimming and diving team and No. 12 men's swimming and diving team earned dominant wins at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion to open the season. The women defeated Kentucky, 218-80, and Akron, 224-74. The men earned a victory over the Wildcats, 191-107

- The Buckeyes opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Nyah Funderburke, Maria Ramos, Katherine Zenick and Teresa Ivan finishing in 1:39.14.
- Ohio State went 1-2-3-4 in the 1000 free. Freshman Mila Nikanorov picked up her first collegiate win, touching the wall at 9:42.80. Gwen Woodbury (9:58.21), Emma Finlin (10:01.19) and Mia Rankin (10:09.87) followed.
- The Buckeyes took the top four spots in the 200 free, with Sienna Angove earning her first collegiate victory with a time of 1:49.37. Rachel Bockrath (1:49.56), Erin Little (1:49.66) and Tia Lindsay (1:49.74) took the next three spots.
- Funderburke (54.38) and Paige Hall (54.81) finished first and second in the 100 back, respectively.
- Freshman Maria Ramos was the winner of the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.34. Ava DeAngelis finished second with a time of 1:02.76 and Nell Cagle finished third with a time of 1:02.93.
- Jessica Eden placed second in the 200 fly, finishing in 2:02.63.
- Lena Hentschel (347.05) and Paola Pineda Vazquez (345.50) placed first and second on the 3-meter springboard. Both scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
- Teresa Ivan (22.99), Zenick (23.06) and Delia Lloyd (23.28) finished 1-2-3 in the 50 free and Little (50.16), Ivan (50.42) and Bockrath (50.90) finished 1-2-3 in the 100 free.
- Lloyd earned her first collegiate win in the 200 back with a time of 1:58.12. Hall finished second with a time of :58.26.
- DeAngelis was the winner of the 200 breast, touching the wall at 2:16.31. Reese Dehen placed third with a time of 2:19.93.
- The Buckeye distance swimmers came out strong again in the 500 free, with Nikanorov (4:50.18), Woodbury (4:54.36) and Finlin (4:55.14) finishing 1-2-3.
- Zenick won the 100 fly with a time of 55.48 and Annie Krusinski finished second, touching the wall at 56.68.
- Pineda Vazquez (313.75), Hentschel (310.05) and Michelle Mazzara (296.20) finished in the top three spots on the 1-meter springboard. All three scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
- Angove (4:18.61) swam the top time in the 400 IM as an exhibition swimmer.
- The relay team of Zenick, Ivan, Little and Bockrath swam the best time in the 400 free relay, finishing in 3:20.44.
- Ohio State opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, with the team of Matt Klinge, Karl Helmuth, Evan Fentress and Daniel Baltes finishing in 1:27.51.
- Sam Campbell placed third in the 1000 free with a time of 9:10.03. Mason Edmund finished fourth with a time of 9:26.28.
- Tomas Navikonis, the defending Big Ten champion in the 200 free, turned in the first NCAA B standard time of the season for the Buckeyes. He won the 200 free with a time of 1:34.53. Jordi Vilchez (1:37.71) and TJ Frost (1:39.05) placed second and third, respectively.
- In the 100 back, Cornelius Jahn earned his first collegiate win with a time of 48.94. Martin Perecinsky placed second with a time of 49.15.
- Helmuth (55.49) and Ryland McDaniel (55.60) were the top two finishers in the 100 breast.
- In the 200 fly, Alex Metzler (1:46.65) placed second and Tristan Jankovics (1:47.45) placed third.
- Tyler Read (395.90), Kylie Flory (369.65) and Dom Roberto (328.40) finished 1-2-3 on the 30-meter springboard. All three scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
- Baltes was the winner of the 50 free, touching the wall at 19.95. Klinge (20.23) finished second and Mario McDonald (20.61) finished third.
- Navikonis picked up his second win of the day in the 100 free with a time of 43.63. Fentress (44.80) and Baltes (45.16) placed second and third, respectively.
- Perecinsky earned his first collegiate win in the 200 back with a time of 1:46.54. Jahn finished second with a time of 1:48.67.
- Jankovics won the 200 breast, finishing in 1:58.80. Helmuth finished third with a time of 2:02.82.
- Metzler (4:25.85) and Campbell (4:31.41) placed second and third, respectively, in the 500 free.
- Fentress took first place in the 100 fly with a time of 48.13. Klinge finished second with a time of 48.22.
- On the 1-meter springboard, Read (339.30), Roberto (333.80) and Flory (332.60) once again took the top three spots and all three scores are NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
- Jankovics (3:49.73) swam the fastest time in the 400 IM as an exhibition swimmer; it was just 20 milliseconds shy of the NCAA B standard time of 3:49.53.
- The Buckeyes host Denison for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 25 at 5:00 p.m.
