Ohio State Falls in Marathon Five-Setter to No. 3 Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (8-9, 1-6 B1G) fell to No. 3 Penn State (17-1, 7-0 B1G) in a marathon five-setter (25-20, 23-25, 16-25, 25-18, 14-16) on Friday night inside the Covelli Center.

Ohio State scored the first six points of the match and led the first set from start to finish in a 25-20 set win. Penn State evened the match with a 25-23 set win in the second set, following 12 ties and five lead changes. The third set was close to the tune of 10 ties before the Nittany Lions used a pair of 3-0 runs to pull away to a 25-16 set win. Ohio State used a late 6-0 run in the fourth set to pull away for a 25-18 set win and force a fifth set. The fifth set was neck-and-neck throughout, requiring extra points after eight ties, but Penn State scored the last three points to win by a 16-14 margin.

Emmi Sellman was the first in the match to reach 10 kills and totaled a career-high 27 kills in the match. Emily Londot finished with 19 kills and has had at least 10 kills in every match this season, adding 12 digs for her 10th double-double of the season. Olivia Hasbrook was the first in the match to reach 10 digs and finished with a career-high 22 digs. Mia Tuman earned her fourth double-double of the season with 55 assists and 15 digs. Reese Wuebker totaled 11 digs.

Ohio State opened scoring with the first six points to force a Penn State timeout. The Nittany Lions scored the next five points out of the timeout to trim the OSU lead to 6-5. The teams traded points with the Buckeyes leading by two to four points until a 3-0 run extended Ohio State's lead to 21-16 and prompted a second Nittany Lions' timeout. Rader wrapped up a 25-20 set win with her third kill of the night.

The Buckeyes scored the first point of the second set and the Nittany Lions took their first lead of the match at 2-1. Ohio State responded with a 4-0 run and a later 3-0 run to take an 8-4 lead. Penn State used a 3-0 run of its own to tie the set at nine points apiece. The set was tied at points nine through 15 before back-to-back PSU points gave the visitors a 17-15 advantage. The Buckeyes responded to tie the set at 18 and took a 20-18 lead. The Nittany Lions scored back-to-back points to tie the set at 21 and prompt a Buckeye timeout. Ohio State called a second timeout trailing 24-22 and Penn State evened the match with a 25-23 set win.

Londot opened the third set with her 10th kill of the match. It was another tight set as the score was tied at every point up until 10-10. Penn State used a 3-0 run to take a 12-10 lead, the first lead more than one point in the set by either team. The Nittany Lions extended their lead to 18-13 on either side of the media timeout to prompt a Buckeye timeout. Penn State scored the final four points of the set to win by a 25-16 margin.

The Nittany Lions used a pair of 3-0 runs to trim the Buckeye lead to 13-11 and prompt an OSU timeout. The Buckeyes used a 6-0 run amidst a challenge win to extend their lead to 24-17 and won the set by a 25-18 margin on Sellman's 21st kill.
